MOBILE FOOD PANTRY

The Food Bank of Corpus Christi is proud to introduce the Mobile Food Pantry as its newest program. The Mobile Food Pantry is another way to meet the needs of Coastal Bend Area residents living in underserved communities in the 11 counties served by the Food Bank.

The Mobile Food Pantry enables churches and other nonprofit organizations to host a food distribution, helping alleviate hunger and food insecurity in their area. "Food insecurity" refers to the lack of access to enough food to fully meet basic needs at all times, due to lack of financial resources.

The Food Bank of Corpus Christi is seeking to expand this program and is looking for nonprofit organizations (501(c)(3)) or churches to "step up to the plate" as a managing partner for new sites. We are currently looking for sponsors and distribution sites in Kleberg, Bee, Duval, and possibly Jim Wells County, as well as some sites in Nueces County, including Corpus Christi.

The managing site partner would be responsible for requesting the pantry, organizing 16-20 volunteers, supplying tables/chairs for workers, qualifying applicants requesting assistance, publicizing the distribution, completing a report for the Food Bank and helping raise funds to support the distribution. In most cases, there will be one distribution per month. However, additional distributions are possible if funding is available.

If you are interested in sponsoring the Mobile Pantry or would like to make a donation to support the program, please contact Debra Bruce at the Food Bank of Corpus Christi.

FRESH PRODUCE PROGRAM

The Board of Directors of the Food Bank is committed to offer not only food, but also an opportunity for better nutrition and better health to people in need. In order to accomplish this goal, the Food Bank has been accessing fresh produce whenever possible and distributing to all 11 service counties.

KID'S CAFE

We provide five sites a hot meal twice a week for the children participating. Volunteers help the children with homework, tutoring, music, reading, life and computer skills.

NUTRITION EDUCAITON

We teach clients how to prepare and eat healthy nutritional meals. Clients are also shown how to properly read labels, maintain temperatures for stored and cooked foods.

RURAL DELIVERY PROGRAM

BACK PACK

Many of the children participating in our "Kid’s Café" program receive a backpack filled with food to take home on Friday’s, so that they won’t go hungry over the weekend.

Our staff goes out into the community and rural areas to educate and assist potential clients to complete the applications for Long Term Care for Seniors, Food Stamps, C.H.I.P., Medicaid, T.A.N.F. and Women’s Health programs.

DIABETES HAND'S ON PROGRAM

We work directly with people who have diabetes or may have pre–diabetes to teach better eating habits and ways to control their sugar levels.
